Excavation & Site Development Contractor

Dirt work is the first thing that goes wrong on a bad job and the last thing anyone notices on a good one. Beast Construction Inc digs, moves, shapes and compacts the ground your project stands on — then keeps going as your general contractor once the hole is ready.

Overview

Precision Dirt Work That Sets Up Every Trade Behind It

As an excavation contractor working across Virginia, Florida, Utah, California and Wyoming, we are usually the first crew on a raw parcel and the ones who decide how smoothly the next six months go. Footings that sit on undisturbed, properly compacted soil do not settle. Pads cut to the right elevation do not force a concrete crew to chase grade. Trenches shored and bedded correctly pass inspection the first time. That is the whole job: give every trade behind us a site they can build on without improvising.

Our excavation work covers foundation and basement digs, crawlspace excavation, building and equipment pads, footing trenches, pond and lagoon work, farm and logging roads, culvert crossings, septic system excavation, and full site development for subdivisions and commercial lots. We run tracked excavators, dozers, skid steers, compact track loaders, articulated dump trucks and compaction equipment sized to the site — heavy iron for a commercial pad, compact machines for a tight residential backyard where the neighbor’s fence is two feet off the tracks.

Because Beast Construction Inc is a general contractor and not only an excavation company, the dirt work does not end at a bare hole in the ground. The same office that priced your excavation can carry the project through grading and drainage, underground utility installation, concrete footings and flatwork, vertical construction and final restoration. One contract. One phone number. One crew held responsible for the finished result.

Foundation, Basement & Crawlspace Excavation

Residential foundation excavation is unforgiving work. Over-dig and you pay for engineered fill and extra compaction; under-dig and the concrete crew stands around while a machine comes back. We shoot grades off the survey and the approved plans, dig to the specified bearing elevation, keep the bottom of the excavation clean and undisturbed, and cut benches or slopes so the trench stays safe for the people working in it.

On basement and daylight-basement digs we plan spoil placement before the first bucket comes out of the ground, because moving the same dirt twice is the fastest way to burn a budget. Where soils are wet or unstable, we stone-stabilize the subgrade, install temporary dewatering, or bring in select fill and compact it in lifts with density testing where the engineer requires it.

Building Pads, Roads & Commercial Site Work

For commercial and light-industrial projects we strip topsoil, stockpile it for later use, cut and fill to balance the site where possible, and build structural pads in compacted lifts. Access roads, laydown yards, staging pads and construction entrances get built early so that the trades and material deliveries are not fighting mud all winter. Erosion and sediment control — silt fence, inlet protection, rock check dams, stabilized entrances — goes in per the approved plan and gets maintained, not just installed.

Developers and builders hire us because we read plans, keep a survey-accurate site, document quantities honestly, and communicate before a change becomes a change order. If the geotech report and the field conditions disagree, you hear about it that afternoon with photos and a recommendation, not at the end of the month on an invoice.

Ponds, Ag Work & Rural Property Projects

Across Southside and Central Virginia and out in Wyoming we do a great deal of rural work: farm ponds and dams, livestock crossings, logging and hunting roads, equipment pads, barn and shop sites, and access improvements for landowners who want their property usable in every season. Pond work in particular rewards experience — core trenches, keyed embankments, proper spillway sizing and clay availability decide whether a pond holds water or becomes an expensive low spot.

Land that needs to be opened up before excavation can start is no problem either, because our land clearing and forestry mulching division handles the timber, brush and stumps first. Rural clients often bundle clearing, a gravel or asphalt driveway, and a pole barn or metal building into a single project with one schedule.

Emergency Excavation & Repair Response

Water main breaks, collapsed culverts, sinkholes at a driveway crossing, storm washouts, sewer laterals that failed under a slab — emergency excavation is a phone call, not a form. Call (833) BY-BEAST or (801) 407-9448 and describe what you are looking at. We will tell you honestly whether we can be there today, and whether the repair needs a utility locate, a permit, or an engineer before anyone digs.

Every dig we perform starts with an 811 locate request. We do not hand-wave utility locates, and we expect the same discipline from anyone we subcontract. It is the single cheapest insurance policy on a jobsite.

Scope of work

What’s Included

Excavation scopes vary widely, so your written estimate spells out exactly what is and is not covered. A typical Beast Construction excavation package includes:

  • Site walk, plan review and grade staking coordination
  • 811 utility locate requests and on-site marking review
  • Clearing and grubbing of the work area
  • Topsoil strip and stockpile for reuse
  • Foundation, basement, crawlspace and footing excavation
  • Trenching for footings, utilities and drainage
  • Cut-and-fill earthwork and site balancing
  • Structural fill placement and compaction in lifts
  • Subgrade stabilization with stone or geotextile
  • Building, equipment and laydown pads
  • Haul-off of excess spoil or on-site placement
  • Culvert and driveway crossing installation
  • Temporary construction entrance and haul roads
  • Silt fence, inlet protection and erosion control
  • Backfill, rough grade and final cleanup
  • As-built photo documentation for your records

How we work

Our Excavation Process

The same sequence on a backyard footing dig and a twelve-acre commercial pad — only the machines change.

  1. Site Visit & Scope

We walk the property, check access, soils, spoil room and utility conflicts, and review plans or the geotech report with you.

  2. Written Estimate

You get a line-item estimate with quantities, assumptions and exclusions in plain English — no vague allowances.

  3. Locates & Mobilization

811 tickets are filed, permits and erosion control go in, and we mobilize equipment sized to your site.

  4. Dig, Compact, Verify

We excavate to plan elevations, compact in lifts, verify grades, backfill, rough grade and leave the site clean and photo-documented.

Keep it under one contract

One Source, Start To Finish

Most clients who call us for excavation end up handing over more of the project, simply because it removes the seams where jobs usually fail. When the same company digs the hole, sets the drainage, pours the concrete and frames the building, nobody argues about whose elevation was wrong.

Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what property owners, builders and developers ask us most about excavation.

How much does excavation cost?

Excavation is priced by the conditions, not by a flat rate: volume of material, soil and rock, haul distance, access, water, and how much of the spoil can stay on site. A simple residential footing dig is a small fraction of a full commercial pad. We give free written estimates with line-item quantities so you can see what drives the number, and we flag anything that could change once we are in the ground.

Do I need permits before excavation starts?

Usually yes. Most jurisdictions require a land disturbance, grading or building permit, and many require an approved erosion and sediment control plan before the first machine moves dirt. Requirements differ across Virginia, Florida, Utah, California and Wyoming and even between counties. Our office confirms what your project needs and can coordinate with your engineer or surveyor.

Do you call 811 for utility locates?

Always, on every dig, including small jobs on private property. Public utility locates are free and legally required in the states we serve. Private lines such as irrigation, septic, propane, invisible fence or a line to a detached shop are not covered by 811, so tell us about anything you know of and we can arrange private locating if needed.

What happens to the dirt you dig out?

Ideally it stays on site. We balance cut and fill wherever the plan allows, stockpile topsoil for final grading, and place suitable material in low areas or berms. When there is genuinely too much or the material is unsuitable, we haul it off and that trucking is shown as its own line item on your estimate.

Can you work on wet, rocky or steep sites?

Yes, with the right approach. Wet subgrades get stone stabilization, geotextile or temporary dewatering. Rock gets a hammer or, where warranted, a specialty subcontractor. Steep sites get benched slopes and staged haul routes. We would rather tell you up front that a site is difficult and price it honestly than discover it halfway through and hand you a surprise.
